General
Continuing education and training courses are offered by universities (Universitätslehrgänge), Universities of Applied Sciences and University Colleges of Teacher Education (Hochschullehrgänge). The education and training courses consist of a predetermined curriculum and provide vocational and supplementary additional qualifications in a specific subject area.
These continuing education and training courses can take a variety of formats (seminars, courses, certificate courses through to courses leading to a bachelor's or master's degree), which differ in terms of content, target groups, duration, admission requirements and degrees. A course fee must be paid to attend these courses.
As of October 1, 2021, the legal framework for continuing education and training courses ending with an academic degree (associate bachelor's or master's degree) was adjusted. The admission requirements for a continuing education and training course ending with a bachelor's degree are the Higher Educational Entrance Qualification and several years of relevant professional experience, for a master's degree a completed bachelor's or diploma degree and several years of relevant professional experience. Admission with a relevant professional qualification or several years of relevant professional experience is now only possible in exceptional cases defined by law. In a transitional phase until the end of September 2023, it is still possible to admit students to master's degree courses in accordance with the legal situation prior to October 1, 2021. The necessary admission requirements vary and are determined by the respective university, Universitiy of Applied Sciences or University Colleges of Teacher Education.
Details of the individual continuing education and training course can be obtained directly from the providing universities, Universities of Applied Sciences or University Colleges of Teacher Education.
The next step:
After completing a course at a university, University of Applied Sciences or University College of Teacher Education, one of many options available is to attend additional courses to obtain additional or higher level qualifications.
